Pharmacokinetics
The bio-availablity of Triamcinolone is moderately high after oral administration. It is rapidy absorbed orally. It is metabolised in the liver.
Indications
Triamcinolone is used in allergies,bronchial asthma,dermatoses,rheumatoid arthritis and other connective tissue disorders. It is used as replacement therapy along with mineralocorticoids in steroid difficiency states.
Routes of Administration and Dosage
Oral:4-32 mgs/day. 2.5-60mgs/day deep I.M. Intra-articular injection:2.5-15mg.
Contra Indications
Triamcinolone is contraindicated in fungal infection, septic arthritis, herpes simplex, peptic ulcer and in glucocorticoid induced myopathy.
Precautions
Special precautions have to be taken in diabetes, hypertension, CVS disease, renal impairment, glaucoma, elderly, neonates,psychosis and in hepatic cirrhosis.
Interactions
Action blunted by barbiturates, phenytoin, rifampicin, cyclosporine and previous long term treatment with other corticosteroids. Absorption of triamcinolone is reduced by antacids. Triamcinolone antogonises the neuromuscular blockade by pancuronium.
