Orciprenaline is an adrenergic drug. It acts by stimulating the Beta-2 receptor cells of the smooth muscles in the bronchioles and uterus. It is orally effective and longer acting.
Orciprenaline is an adrenergic bronchodilator that is used to dilate the bronchi . They are taken by oral inhalation to treat the symptoms of bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and some other lung diseases.
Routes of Administration and Dosage
ORAL-Adults: 20 mg 3 to 4 times per day. Children 6-9 yrs: 10 mg 3-4 times a day. Children over 9 yrs: usual adult dose. Children below 6 yrs: not recommended.
INHALATION: 0.65-1.3 mg. I.M/S.C: 0.5-1mg.
Contra Indications
It is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to the drug and severe cardiac disease.
Precautions
Precautions must be taken when using the drug during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Interactions
Tricyclic antidepressants potentiate bronchodilatation and adverse cardiac effects. Digitalis increases adverse cardiac effects.
