In Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency: Nitrofurantoin may cause anemia in patients with G6PD deficiency. In renal disease (other than infection): The chance of side effects of this drug may be increased and the drug may be less effective in patients with renal disease. Pulmonary disease and nerve damage : Patients with pulmonary disease or nerve damage may have an increase in adverse effects when they take nitrofurantoin.
With Antidiabetics, Dapsone, Methyldopa, Primaquine, Procainamide, Quinidine,Sulfonamides,Sulfoxone,Vitamin K : Patients who take nitrofurantoin with any of these drugs develop blood disorders . With Carbamazepine, Chloroquine, Cisplatin, Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTP) vaccine, Disulfiram, Ethotoin, Hydroxychloroquine, Lindane, Lithium and Vincristine: Patients who take nitrofurantoin with any of these drugs, or who have received a DTP vaccine within the last 30 days or are going to receive a DTP may have an increase in neurological adverse effects.
