Pharmacokinetics
Lisinopril is slowly absorbed after oral administration. It has 1/2 life of 7 hrs. It is excreted via the urine.
Indications
Losinopril inhibits Angiotensin Converting enzyme.It is used to treat hypertension. ACE inhibitors are also used to reduce proteinuria in diabetics. They are also used to treat congestive heart failure.
Routes of Administration and Dosage
For oral dose (tablets): For congestive heart failure:Adults: 2.5 to 20 mg once a day.For Hypertension: Adults: 10 to 40 mg once a day.
Contra Indications
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity, Pregnancy, aortic stenosis, renal impairment, corpulmonale, in children.
Precautions
Allergies: Allergic reaction to Lisinopril may occur. Pregnancy: Studies in rats at doses many times the recommended human dose have shown that use of lisinopril causes a decrease in successful pregnancies, a decrease in the weight of infants, and an increase in infant deaths. It has also caused abnormal bone growth in rabbits.
Interactions
Lithium and Indomethacin reduce hypotensive effect. Hydrochlorthiazide potentiates its effect. Co-administration of cyclo-oxygenase causes reduction in renal function.
