It is contraindicated in anuria, those with history of allergy to ethacrynic acid, hypokalaemia, hyponatraemia, precoma stage associated with hepatic cirrhosis and Addisons disease.
Allergies : Allergic reaction to ethacrynic acid may occur. Pregnancy:In general, diuretics are not useful for edema of feet and hands that occurs during pregnancy. Diuretics should not be taken during pregnancy. Breast-feeding: Ethacrynic acid passes into breast milk. Older adults: Dizziness, lightheadedness, or signs of hypokalemia may be more likely to occur in the elderly, who are more sensitive to the effects of loop diuretics. Elderly patients may also be more likely to develop thrombii.
Interactions
Loop Diuretics increase the nephrotoxicity of Cephalosporins and aminoglycosides. Phenytoin and Indomethacin decrease the effect of loop diuretics. Analgesics may reduce the natriuretic effect. Loop Diuretics enhance the activity of muscle relaxants.
