Pharmacokinetics
Cephalexin is partially protein bound, attains high concentration in bile and is excreted in urine as such.Plasma half life is 60 minutes.
Indications
Cephalexin is used in respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, otitis, soft tissue infections, UTI and biliary tract infections.It is active against streptococci, gonococci, meningococci, corynebacterium.diphtheria, clostiridia and actinomyces. It is less active against penicillinase producing staphylococci and H.influenza.
Routes of Administration and Dosage
Cephalexin-Oral : 0.25-1 gram 6-8 hourly[children 25-100mgs/kg/day].
Contra Indications
Cephalexin is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Precautions
Special precaution to be taken in patients who are hypersensitive to penicillins, pseudomembranous collitis, pregnancy, lactation and renal failure.
