Pharmacokinetics

Cefaperozone is given predominantly Intravenously. It penetrates tissues well. The half life is 2 hrs. 90% is protein bound. 25 % is excreted in urine.Its excretion is reduced in renal impairment. It is metabolised in the liver.

Indications

Cefoperazone is used in the treatment of infections caused by Staph aureus, salmonella typhi,H. influenzae, Enterobacteria, Ps.aerugenosa, Bacteroides fragilis.It is bactericidal in action.

Routes of Administration and Dosage

For bacterial infections: For injection dosage form : Adults : 1to 2 grams every twelve hours injected IV.

Contra Indications

Cefaperozone is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.

Precautions

Precaution to be taken in infants less than 1 month.It causes hypoprothombinemia and increases the bleeding tendency.

Interactions

It enhances the toxicity of Aminoglycosides. It causes Disulfiram like reaction with alcohol.
