Sri Ramachandra Medical College And Research Institute

Established in the year 1988, Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre now has 1050 beds with a full spectrum of clinical activities providing hi-tech and comprehensive medical care. This ten lakh sq. ft hospital building has been planned to include all services to patients under one roof and to serve the cross section of the community. There is a good distribution of free patients, heavily subsidised ones and the ones who will pay for the services in full. The medical care itself is uniformly monitored to establish predictable levels of care that will reach every patient.

Ambulatory Care

A specially designed building where free out-patients care is being provided caters to the needs of people from several hundred villages in the neighbourhood and from the city of Chennai. This facility is open on all days of the year. Nearly 2000 patients come every day with a variety of problems. They are screened, evaluated and treated free of cost. Both urban and rural folk have come to depend on this Medical Centre.

Private Ambulatory Clinic: Those patients who have the capacity to pay for the services rendered and patients who are covered by insurance schemes and employee benefit schemes can utilise these private clinics where all the consultants in various specialities are available all through the day to provide health care privately.

Emergency, Trauma and Critical Care Services

Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre is located in the hub of the major interstate highways. It receives quite a few road traffic accident victims in need of acute trauma care. The network of speciality ambulances with wireless communication facilities reaches these victims either at home or on the road and rushes them to the Medical Centre without wasting time. During this initial golden hour period the well-trained para medics under guidance from emergency physicians render resuscitative care. The Cardiac Care Centre has had phenomenal growth in every aspect of care within three years of inception. It is very well known not only in Chennai but nationally and in some of the neighbouring countries as well. The team of committed Cardiologists, Cardio-thoracic surgeons and Anaesthesiologists including Intensivists is available at all times to take care of Emergencies. The Centre has performed over 3000 cath studies and many hitech invasive procedures like angioplasty, valvuloplasty, coronary stenting etc and over 1000 cardiac surgeries annually. These include complex anomalies of the heart in new-born children, complicated valvular diseases in young adults and coronary vascular surgery in the grown ups. The Centre has already entered successfully into the arena of cardiac transplantation. Apart from the curative aspects of its function the Centre pays particular attention to the preventive cardiac disease as well.

Neuro Care Centre

Brain injuries due to road traffic accidents, tumours of the brain and blood vessel rupture inside the brain are some of the major concerns in the fields of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Paediatric and adult seizure disorders are increasing in number. Our Medical Centre decided to develop a dedicated Neuro Care Centre to address these challenging situations and offer the state-of-the-art modelling of medical and surgical management. The specialised equipment in Neurodiagnostics with the availability of 3rd generation CT Scanner and 1.5 Tesal MRI Scanner and DSA Angiography have increased the capability to diagnose Neuro disorders on time. A devoted team of neurologists and neurosurgeons and micro vascular neurosurgeons lives inside the campus ready to take care of such situations as they come in.

Organ Transplantation Services

At Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre teams of surgeons and physicians have performed renal and cardiac transplantations. Cadaver donor organ transplantation has been taken up as a major programme at the Medical Centre and the necessary infrastructure including a full-fledged blood bank, and a clinical laboratory with capability to perform tissue compatibility testing have been installed.

Ophthalmic Services

The Department of Ophthalmology at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre has made a significant leap in the variety of services that it has offered over the years. With the recent introduction of additional equipment, microscopes etc, the services have been widened to be able to take care of the increasing number of villagers who seek help. Many of these patients are blind requiring either corneal transplants or cataract extraction and implantation of intra-ocular lenses.

Ear, Nose and Throat Services

Advanced surgery in terms of Neck dissection, Laryngectomy, Sinusscopy and Cochlear implant are being carried out in this facility. Specialised equipment that is required and personnel to work with are always in readiness to handle such problems.

Diagnostic Services

The clinical laboratory has a complete range of semi automatic and automatic analysers in addition to cell counters and other equipment required for diagnosis. Technologists work 24 hours a day to help the clinicians with high quality studies and reports.

The Radiology and Imaging Services offer all the diagnostic services utilising the five 800MA X-ray machines, four Ultrasound machines, a third generation CT Scanner, 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner, Nuclear Gamma Camera with spect option and also DSA Angiography facilities. Obstetrics and Gynaecology

For the hundreds of villages in the neighbourhood the Medical Centre offers an excellent facility for delivering babies with qualified consultants available all the time. There has been a steady increase in the number of women who have come to depend upon this department for their health care needs in the areas of Obstetrics and Neonatology. Pulmonology (Chest Medicine)

The increasing incidence of bronchitis, asthma and emphysema, apart from tuberculosis, has only added to the challenges of the physicians of this department. Our Pulmonology lab has the equipment and the supporting staff the expertise to offer the latest methods of treatment based on sophisticated diagnosis. Every effort is taken for a total evaluation of lung function before complicated surgeries are undertaken so that the post-operative course is smooth. Intensive post-operative pulmonary care is also provided to these patients.

Paediatrics
