The cardiology department offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facilities for a wide range of heart diseases. The department has both an invasive and non-invasive section. State-of-the-art equipment is available as is a well equipped and efficiently run Intensive Care Unit.

Adult Cardiology

Dr. S Mullasari Ajit MBBS, MD, DNB, DM

Dr. S Mullasari Ajit completed his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Australia from 1992-1995. He was a Commonwealth and Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial scholar. Interests are coronary, non-coronary interventions and cardiac transplantation.

Dr. P K Jaiswal MBBS, MD, DM

Dr. P K Jaiswal completed his DM in Cardiology from the Chitra Thirunal Institute of Cardiac Sciences. Interests are coronary and non-coronary interventions.

Dr. Ali Faizal MBBS, MD, DM

Dr. Ali Faizal completed his DM in Cardiology from the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. Interests are coronary and non-coronary interventions.

Dr. Usha S Krishnan MBBS, DCH, MD, DM, DNB(Paed), AB(Paed), AB(Paed Card) FAAP

Dr. Usha S Krishnan completed her Residency in Paediatrics and Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at the Columbia University. She was also a faculty member at the Columbia University for two years. Special Interest includes Interventional Pediatric Cardiology.

Dr. Maully Shah MBBS, AB(Paed), AB(Card)

Dr. Maully Shah completed her Residency in Pediatrics from the University of Connecticut, USA, Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and her Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology from the same institution. Special Interest in Electrophysiology.

Dr. Sharadha Srinivas MBBS, MD, AB(Paed)

Dr. Sharadha Srinivas completed her Fellowship at the Boston Children's Hospital in non-invasive Paediatric Cardiology. Areas of special interest are Echocardiography and Foetal Echo.

Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons

Padmashri Dr. K M Cherian M.S. FRACS

Dr. K M Cherian is one of the world's leading Cardio-Thoracic surgeons. He performed India's first successful Coronary Artery Graft in 1975, the first Internal Mammary Artery Graft in 1976, the first Heart transplant in India after the legalization of brain death in 1995, India's first bilateral lung transplant in 1997, the country's first Pediatric Heart Transplant in 1997 and India's first Heart and Lung Transplant in May 1999. He is Emeritus Professor of Cardiac Surgery, the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University and Chairman of Indian Association of Laser Surgery & Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Past President of the Indian Association of Thoracic and Cardio vascular Surgeons and member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the International Society of Cardio Thoracic Surgeons (ISCTS).

He is also a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and a member of the Australasian Society of Cardio Thoracic Surgeons. Dr. Cherian is currently the Director of the Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases, Madras Medical Mission, Chennai.

Dr. S Rajan M.S., M.Ch

Dr. S Rajan completed his M.Ch from the Madras Medical College. Trained at the Oxford Heart Centre and Birmingham Children's Hospital in the United Kingdom. He is the first receipient of the Chiles Foundation Fellowship at St.Vincent's Hospital, Portland, Oregon. Interests are Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery and Valvular Heart Surgery.

Dr. Kurian Mathew M.S., M.Ch, D.P.M.R

Dr. Kurian Mathew completed his M.Ch from the Sri. Chitra Thirunal Institute of Cardiac Sciences. Worked as a Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Guy's Hospital, London. Formerly Consultant at the B.M.Birla Heart Research Centre, Calcutta. Special Interests are Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery and Valvular Heart Surgery. He is also the head of the Research Foundation of the Madras Medical Mission.

Dr. N Madhu Sankar M.S., Ph.D, Dip.N.B

Dr. N Madhu Sankar worked as a Clinical Fellow at the Cardiopulmonary Transplant Unit, St.Vincent's Hospital, Sydney and at the Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit, Westmead Hospital, Westmead, Australia. Special Interest is in Cardiac Transplantation.

Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

Dr. K S Murthy M.S., M.Ch

Dr. K S Murthy completed his M.Ch from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. He had his Post-Graduate Training in Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Green Lane Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. Area of Special Interest is in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery.

Dr. Shivaprakasha K, M.S., M.Ch

Dr. Shivaprakasha completed his Cardiac Surgery Program from the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Chandigarh in 1992. Completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery from the Royal Alexandria Hospital for Children, Sydney, Australia. Area of special interest is Paediatric Cardiac Surgery.
